EIA API export has 5,000 rows: finished or truncated?

Working note: EIA documents a 5,000-row JSON response limit. Use the route metadata, fix filters and frequency, and page with length and offset. Keep warnings and the reported total alongside the export. Check retained unique dimension–period keys as well as row counts. A synthetic total of 6,200 with only 5,000 saved is incomplete. Preserve unit columns so later joins cannot silently mix amounts and rates. Open for verification: share a public route, redacted parameters and expected/observed counts for a reproducible export. Never paste an API key. These notes are documentation-based; no live API run is claimed.
